Bodegas Altanza, located in Fuenmayor (Rioja Alta), was born in October 1998 with a clear founding principle: to produce quality wines of a more “vivacious” style than the classic Rioja of yesteryear, and to market them at a fair price. We understood that the long wine and oenological tradition of our region was a source of pride and should be respected in its essence. However, the taste of domestic and foreign consumers, increasingly better informed, and the demands of hygiene, quality and efficiency of our times clearly indicated that new technologies should be present in the process of development from the beginning.

Consequently, the architecture of the winery is also conceived, like the project, following a balance between tradition and technology.
The tradition is not only reflected in the beauty of the central building and its gardens, but also in the choice of its varietal, tempranillo, and in certain elements of the vinification process, such as vertical hydraulic presses or tanks with 22,000 liters of capacity Made with the oak that comes from the centennial forests of “Allier”, in France. In addition, it should be noted that most of our 7500 barrels are made of French oak.
The technology is mainly reflected in our stainless steel tanks of different sizes – which allows a more flexible customization of the broths, equipped with cold and heat shirts for absolute control of the temperature during fermentations. We also have our own laboratory and a modern bottle rack, which is kept at a constant temperature.
